This project aims to create a consistent brand identity for a restaurant, through logo, business card, and menu design.
To begin this project, I decided the direction I wanted to take was a sushi restaurant. This is because I am familiar with sushi restaurant menus and design from working at one. I researched other sushi restaurants, analyzing their websites for popular designs and styling. I drew inspiration from the restaurant I worked at as well, and made choices for typography, colors, theme, and imagery.
I aimed to maintain an aquatic theme featuring a fish, since this is the source of sushi. I began by designing the logo in Adobe Illustrator, keeping a simple design, while using a more decorated font. I made sure to picture the logo on a business card and menu while designing it. I then took the logo into Adobe InDesign, and used the fish graphic to create a business card. I made sure to feature the logo, and use neutral colors to complement it. Finally I created the menu using the logo and keeping the same aquatic theme. I used a simple font for the items and prices in order to keep them readable and to complement the font in the logo. I added simple line graphics to tie in the food items, while not distracting from the logo graphics. This was one of the first times I had applied digital design to a brand rather than an independent project, and the design principles I learned have aided me in every design I have developed since.
