Screen Printing Project

INTRODUCTION

This project aims to create a 2 tone design and produce it on a textile using the screen printing process.

CONCEPT

This project didn’t have a target audience, since the products were only to be used by the designer, so I drew inspiration from my own closet, and clothing I liked. I had been interested in floral stamps at the time, and also drew heavy inspiration from a folder of my favorite stamps.

PROCESS

Once I had the type of flower and composition of the design in mind, I used Adobe Illustrator to bring the concept to life. I used 2 tones and separated the colors into two separate files. In photoshop I turned these into tiff file proofs and applied them to a film. I used this film to develop a screen and used a carousel press to print the design onto clothing. I became familiar with the screen printing process, file separation, and textile printing.
